Two kinds of lists
This site keeps two kinds of lists. The first kind is a snapshot: the charts, rebuilt from what the country is actually listening to this week — the Hot 100, and the five genre charts arguing underneath it. The second kind is a time machine: the top songs of each decade from the 1970s to the 2020s, the records that outlived their era. Pick a list, follow it to its page, and press Play All — every song plays a free 30-second preview, no sign-up asked for.
This week's charts
Fresh every week, straight from the live charts. Each one opens with its highlights, then plays top to bottom.
- The Hot 100 — This week's top songs, told as a story: not a ranking so much as a group photo of American listening, taken fresh each week.
- Pop — Pop was never really a sound; it's a job — be the song a whole country can sing by the second hearing. Here's who's doing the job best this week.
- Rap/Hip-Hop — From two turntables in the Bronx to the most influential music on Earth: the sound that runs the culture, heard while it's still raw.
- Country — A story you can believe, sung plain — a hundred of them competing for the same radio towers and tailgates, in country's biggest run in memory.
- Rock — A hall of fame that refuses to stay in its frame: sixty years of guitars decline to sit down, and the classics keep out-charting the newcomers.
- R&B — The genre pop goes to when it wants to feel something — the most beautiful voices in music, one after another.
Top songs by decade
Six playlists, sixty years of music. Each decade gets its story and its defining songs, playable in order.
- 1970s — The decade that had everything: soul grew into funk, funk put on a mirror ball, and rock split into tribes — all at full volume.
- 1980s — The decade of the big chorus, when pop learned to be seen and synthesizers turned bedrooms into orchestras. Subtlety was not invited.
- 1990s — The last analog decade: grunge kicks the door in, hip-hop becomes the culture, and the CD era takes its victory lap.
- 2000s — The iPod decade: a thousand songs in your pocket, music out of its packaging, and the single roaring back.
- 2010s — The streaming decade: music stopped being something you owned and became a river you could step into anywhere.
- 2020s — The decade so far: hits born in public, mid-sentence — the fastest musical era ever measured, and only half told.
